The documentary produced by Rai Cultura for the Art Night series tells the story of Lucio Fontana, great anticipator and undisputed protagonist of Italian art of the second half of the twentieth century. With his holes and slashes, the artist invented a new way of conceiving art and space.
Thanks to the precious archives of the Teche Rai, the documentary presents Fontana himself as narrator of his story, at work on his pieces and in galleries. It includes interviews with contemporary artists such as Fausta Squatriti, a great friend of Fontana, who recalls... "He was adored by artists and hated by the bourgeois because they didn't understand the reason for this slash. It was a provocative gesture. For an artist to do something that means nothing is to go to the beyond".
The documentary explores the revolution of Spatialism and the path that led Fontana from traditional sculptor to radical innovator of contemporary art, through experimentation with different materials: ceramic, bronze, mosaic, light and television.
